I Don't Believe

from The Beginning by Vandi Lynnae

/

about

'In "I Don’t Believe," Vandi takes on a mature sound. The song talks about a relationship that they once believed in and fought for during their youth. Calling themselves "naïve" when they foolishly thought they were in love, the now-bitter and frustrated lover likens their relationship as a fate worse than death.
They no longer see eye to eye. In fact, they don’t even see or listen to each other anymore. In the song, the lines ‘I don’t believe in love. No, I don’t believe’ express the loss of love and affection between the couple. They no longer recognize each other as the lovers they once were. All the love, fascination, dreams, and promises are broken and gone. It seems the only way out is to leave the relationship."

lyrics

Cold and gray. We live in a haze. A misty cloud, a fog so dense-that I can’t breathe.
Where’d you go? You're not here.
When you look at me-You don’t see-anything.
When you look at me-I can’t see-anything.

Near yet far-Where’s your heart?
I swear I felt it beating. Now it’s nothing and mine’s bleeding.
You don’t speak, and you don’t hear.
You might take what you need, but you don’t ask, and you’re not breathing.

Robotic, hypnotic, in a daze
A dream-weaver, deceiver, and I’m trapped in the labyrinth-in the maze
You’re so calm and so logical-so collected-so methodical
And you need me, but you hate me, but you keep me, and you bait me
And you need me, but you hate me, but you keep me, and you cage me

I don’t believe in love
No I don’t believe
I don’t see any love-in the world around me
I don’t believe in love
No I don’t believe
I can’t believe in love-when I just watched you leave

We were young and so naive
We believed-our love could conquer anything
We fell fast-and hard-and life
Quickly became something I cannot name
And the flames grew and the bets raised to heights much too steep for me

I don’t believe in love
No I don't believe
If our love was strong enough
You’d still be here with me
I don’t believe in love
No I don’t believe
I can’t believe in love
No I can’t believe

You-promised to be a dream-come true-who knew
You’d-be worse that I could’ve imagined-worse than waking nightmares
Worse than the sweet release of nothingness
Worse than the taking of-a last breath
If you really loved me-you would’ve followed through-and finished me

I don’t believe in love
No I don’t believe
Cause in a world where love was
How Could I feel so empty

I don’t believe in love
No I can’t believe
Cause if love-really was
Someone could see, something could heal-me
